Schools Work

When the team is not busy organising and hosting weekend events or reaching out to young people on the streets, we are engaging with some of the most at risk young people in local secondary schools. Mainly working with Prince’s Trust xl Groups and More Choices, More Chances programmes, we provide extra support to many young people who are at risk of exclusion or expulsion from school. Delivering an alternative curriculum to young people who are disengaged (or in danger of becoming disengaged) from the mainstream curriculum, we work in partnership with other agencies such as Community Learning and Development, Active Schools, STEP (Steps Towards Employment Project) and Skills Development Scotland to deliver relevant and diverse programmes.

Dumfries House
The Ark has also built up a great relationship with Dumfries House, a stately home close to Cumnock, which is developing a number of community-led regeneration projects. Working in partnership with staff there, we take young people up to the site and give them the opportunity to help in this unique project by way of gardening, clearing paths and more. Young people involved in these projects not only enjoy the practical aspect of the work but can also receive volunteering awards for the time that they put in which is a positive addition to their CV as many look to gaining employment in the near future.
